"Keepers of the Coast"
| The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves and beaches for all people, through Conservation, Activism, Research, Education...otherwise known as C.A.R.E. |
The Surfrider Foundation's primary and specific purposes are:
- To safeguard and enhance the quality of all surfriding environments, and public access to beaches, both along the United States coastline and elsewhere in the world.
- To educate the public regarding the importance of the oceans' waves as recreational resources and the need to preserve surfriding sites for future generations.
- To provide members with opportunities for community involvement and local activism directed toward furthering the mission and objectives of the Surfrider Foundation.
The Surfrider Foundation was founded in 1984 by Glenn Hening, Tom Pratte and several other Malibu, California locals who were concerned about the possible loss of their favorite surf break. Today the Surfrider Foundation consists of over 25,000 members with 47 domestic chapters and international affiliates in Australia, France, Japan, Brazil and Canada.
